Detailed description of Cross Creek Golf Club

Cross Creek Golf Club is a Semi-Private 18 hole golf course located just north of San Diegoin Temecula, California.

Cross Creek Golf Club first opened for play in 2001. The course was designed by Arthur Hills.

Cross Creek was laid out on 180 rolling acres and boasts four sets of tees to challenge golfers of all skill levels. The course features many large Oaks and Sycamores, and golfers must negotiate a series of creeks which intersect the course. Elevation changes offer several beautiful views of nearby Temecula's hill country. Cross Creek is a semi-private club, offering public access to a club of exclusive feel.

The steep hills create bold elevation changes that produce blinds shots to slick, tight greens. The tree lined fairways and tees swallow shots make things difficult for players who can't keep it straight.

The natural hazards on the Arthur Hills designed course demand careful shot making, beginning on the first hole, a dogleg right lined with trees that requires a tee shot to the left to avoid a layup. The first five holes border Sycamore Creek, bringing water into play early. The most dynamic water holes are #9, a demanding par 4 with a large pond to the left of the green, and #17, the signature hole, a downhill par-3 that crosses a creek to an elevated green. The par 5 7th, the longest hole on the course, plays into a breeze that increases its length. The 13th, a downhill dogleg par 4 demands an elevated tee shot across a deep valley. The 18th, a dramatic finishing hole, features a long uphill shot over a deep ravine to a well guarded green.

The course features firm hard to hold fairways, rough edged bunkers that are difficult to escape, and firm, fast greens that slope away for tricky putts.

Par for the course is 71. From the back tees the course plays to 6833 yards. From the forward tees the course measures 4606 yards. The longest hole on the course is # 7, a par-5 that plays to 540 yards. The shortest hole on the course is # 17, a par-3 that plays to 170 yards from the back tees.

Watch out for # 9, a 457 yard par-4 challenge and the #1 handicap hole on the course. The easiest hole at Cross Creek Golf Club is # 17, a 170 yard par-3.

Played at 6:30 am and got the round in at 3 hours 15 minutes. Nice open-country course with no houses. Lots of oak trees and native areas that you must stay out of. (plus, beware of the poison oak!) Pick the correct tees as 4 or more holes require big tee shots just to clear hazards or brush. Fairways are decently wide but going 5 yards off the fairway can often mean trouble. Pretty nice greens that looked slow but can really run out past the hole. Best to stay below the hole when possible. Tough opening holes - if you can par 1, 2, and 3 you are really off to a good start. The 17th hole, a par three, reminds me of many tree-surrounded holes you might find in the north or eastern US. Real nice course for the cost.

I really like this Golf Course however be warned if you are a high handicap player you will likely struggle, almost every hole requires accurate shot making. My advice play the appropriate tees for your handicap to enjoy this course

I brought our golf group to this course for a 32 person shotgun start. They put 3 groups of 5 players in front of us making for a very slow and painful round for all of us. We sat on every hole for every shot. We are an experienced group, this was insulting. There was no Marshall to help us so we sat, and sat and sat.

This course is in amazing condition right now. Compared to many other courses whose fairways are dormant now, Cross Creek is beautiful. The fairways are green as are the greens. The greens are fast but true. There are online discount tee times that provide amazing savings. Played at 1:00 and finished before sundown. No one ahead of us the entire round. Coyotes playing on the #3 green. No homes, no cars. Get away from it all but bring extra balls! You may need them.

This course fell on hard times but has made a excellent come back. For those who played it in early to mid 2010 give it another chance. For those who have played it from 2001-2006 then stopped, like I did, due to the inferior conditions and cost....give it another shot. Crosscreek is back

Cross Creek Golf Club is in the process of changing their fairways over to Bermuda. Right now, (August 2010) the fairways and are in absolutely horrible condition. The golf shop personnel even told everybody to play it as Winter rules and lift clean and replace. Once they grow back in they may be great.

But for now, there is no way that Cross Creek should be charging what they are charging. They are charging as if the course was in top shape, not being reworked. There are at least 10 courses in the area that are a much better value.

Cross Creek has a lot of features that a first time visitor who isn't aware of can cause some issues. Cutoff fairways, hole layouts in general, etc. If it is your first time, play with someone who has local knowledge of the course.

I read some of the other comments, but they were back in 2008. I just played the course about three weeks ago and shot 73 from the tips. The greens did not look great because of the time of the year, but were absolutely great for putting true. The fairways were green and not in bad condition and they had a nice clubhouse with a small snack bar with great food. The staff is excellent and aim to please. If you are traveling to the area, this is one course that should be on your list.

Great layout and beautiful setting. Fairway a little thin and most of the greens are gone. Pace of play on the week ends is usually 5+ hours. No marshals.
